Durgam Chinnaiah, MLA for Bellampalli, has come under fire for allegedly assaulting toll plaza employees on National Highway 363 in Mandamarri on Tuesday night.
Chinnaiah was seen slapping a staffer in a CCTV video clip that circulated after the incident. He allegedly attacked the staffer for asking him to pay the toll even though the work on the national highway had not yet been completed. However, no complaint was filed against the legislator, according to Mandamarri Inspector S Pramod Rao.
Meanwhile, the video clip quickly went viral on social media. Many chastised the National Highway Authorities of India for failing to prevent toll collection at the toll plaza before the works were completed completely.
On December 30, members of the Communist Party of India (CPI) held a dharna in Mandamarri on the under-construction national highway 363, protesting the collection of toll fees from motorists. The NHAI announced the start of fee collection on December 30.
