Google has awarded a $1 million grant to the Wadhwani Institute for Artificial Intelligence. According to the company, the grant will be used to develop AI-powered solutions that will assist farmers in obtaining timely, localised, and accurate weather information.
This includes crop and other farm-related information, as well as improving the efficiency and capabilities of India’s agriculture knowledge systems.
In 2019, the institute received a $2 million Google.org grant to support the CottonAce AI-powered pest management solution. The CottonAce app, which has an easy-to-use multilingual interface, assists farmers in correctly identifying the types of pests on their farms and provides early warnings and advisories to farmers.
This would allow them to take prompt action to combat infestation and ensure a healthy crop yield.
