After the event, he is said to have been attempting to escape to Hyderabad.
Telugu Desam Party leader Vuyyuru Srinivas, who organised a gift-distribution event in Guntur that resulted in a stampede on Sunday that claimed the lives of three persons, was apprehended by Andhra Pradesh police on Monday near Eluru Road in Vijayawada.
After the event, he is said to have been attempting to escape to Hyderabad.
After N Chandrababu Naidu addressed a public meeting, people rushed to accept Sankranti presents, causing a stampede at the programme. Three ladies were murdered and many more, predominantly women, were injured.
Srinivas has already been charged in connection with the Guntur stampede event under Sections 304 and 174 of the IPC, and his name is listed as A-1 in the case. Additionally, a complaint has been filed against Srinivasa Rao, the head of the Vuyyuru Foundation, the umbrella organisation under which the programme was run. The foundation’s managing director is Srinivas.
A woman passed away immediately, and two more perished from their injuries while being transported to a hospital, according to Health Minister Vidadala Rajani, who visited the hospital where the injured were being treated.
After handing out token slips to the populace, the TDP organisers reportedly began distributing presents, including sarees for Sankranti. Without adequate crowd control measures in place, the enormous masses who arrived pushed the barricades aside, causing a stampede. Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy expressed astonishment at the occurrence and promised that the government will support the victims’ families as well as offer exgratia to the deceased.
Additionally, it is claimed that the TDP used free presents and money distribution programmes to entice voters in the run-up to the elections. Three days have passed since an event similar to the stampede that killed eight persons in Kandukuru, Nellore district, before the disaster in Guntur.
