Jeddah: A second young Indian expat perished in a wintertime accident in Saudi Arabia in less than a month.
In Saudi Arabia and other Gulf countries, where the bulk of fatalities are due to asphyxia brought on by fire incidents, heater use is significant during the winter months. Abdul Zaheer, 28, a resident of Nirmal district who worked in Riyadh, passed away on Sunday from asphyxia brought on by a heater fire accident while he was asleep.
Abdul Zaheer was a driver for a Saudi family and resided in the Malaz neighbourhood of the city. In India, his father recently died away from cancer. He was the family’s sole provider, and he unfortunately passed away after breathing in smoke from the heater fire.
On behalf of the victim’s family, community workers Abdul Rafiq and Muzammil Shaikh are completing legal requirements.
A younger house driver from Tamil Nadu passed away in identical circumstances in Riyadh before.
In fire accidents, smoke is a quiet killer, and the risk increases when you’re asleep since the sufferer won’t feel the smoke until their choking is severe. According to a survey, about 45 hours each week, 7 million heaters are utilised in Saudi Arabia throughout the winter. Authorities in charge of civil defence have regularly advised citizens to take safety precautions when using heaters throughout the winter.
