The GP Birla Library has over 10,500 books from all over the world on subjects such as art, culture, architecture, archaeology, and religion, among others
Hyderabad: Libraries in the city are in high demand after the State government announced massive recruitments for a variety of positions. Job seekers have even been flocking to private study halls paying exorbitant fees as part of their preparations.
Students and job seekers looking for a peaceful and noise-free environment at an affordable price can visit the GP Birla Library. The Ganga Prasad Birla Library, named after the industrialist Ganga Prasad Birla, was founded by his wife Nirmala Birla to provide educational and informational resources and services to individuals and groups.
It houses over 10,500 books from all over the world on subjects such as art, culture, architecture, archaeology, and religion, among others. Furthermore, many useful books and materials are required to prepare for TSPSC exams, civil services exams, and other competitive exams.
According to Geetha Rao, the library’s administrative officer, the library provides the ideal environment for students to study and prepare in peace and quiet. “Those who are serious about passing government exams can make the best use of the facilities,” she says.
The library, which first opened its doors to scientists and scholars in 2013, is now open to the general public. An annual membership of Rs 6,000 grants access to this world-class collection of reading material.
With an increase in the number of visitors, the library opened a new study hall in 2018 to accommodate more students. The study hall currently has a capacity of 50 (AC) and 100 people (non-AC). In addition, the library has four classrooms that can be converted into study halls during peak periods.
According to the librarian, P Nagesh, “Earlier, students pursuing Medicine and CA used to visit the library, but now with TSPSC issuing several notifications, students preparing for Groups and Sub Inspector posts from various districts are taking memberships.”
“The library is equipped with best infrastructure and I have been making use of it for over two years,” says Sai Teja, a civil service aspirant, while B Mounica, who is preparing for her TSPSC Group exams, adds, “I have been to other libraries before, but none can match what this place offers.
