The actor has promised financial assistance for Aripina Jayalaxmi’s coaching for the civil services examination after being impressed by her story of determination and struggle.
After seeing a story about Jayalaxmi on a leading Telugu television channel, the actor’s mother suggested that he assist the girl. Jagapathi Babu not only met Jayalaxmi but also promised to assist her with exam preparation.
Jayalaxmi’s parents pick up trash from houses. The family lives in the Singareni colony slum in Hyderabad’s Saidabad district. Jayalaxmi, a degree student, has been raising slum issues by organising meetings under the guise of a “parliament” for children.
She previously served as “Prime Minister of the City Level Children’s Parliament,” where she addressed pressing issues such as hunger. As “Prime Minister of the World Children’s Parliament,” she now works in an online forum with representatives from various countries to discuss issues affecting their communities.
She was awarded the 2022 Changemaker Award. Dr. Andrew Fleming, the former British deputy high commissioner in Hyderabad, said last month that she was one of the most inspiring people he met in Hyderabad over the last five years.
“She turned every head in the room in 2018 when she announced her intention to be an IAS Officer at an event,” Fleming wrote, praying for Jayalaxmi’s success as a true changemaker full of kindness and good intent.
