A busking guitarist strumming in a public place was interrupted and asked to leave in a video that has gone viral on the internet.
The video shows the man seated on the floor playing his instrument as onlookers pause to listen to his music and film him. The cop asks him to stop and yanks his hand away from the strings.
Rajesh Tailang, an actor and Twitter user, shared the video with the caption, “Watched this clip on Instagram. This is not completed, @DelhiPolice. These artists make Delhi more beautiful and musical. “What a pity!!! (sic)”
Online, people’s reactions to the video were divided. Some users called the cop’s actions rash and uncalled for.
“It’s so sad… considering how many street musicians we see in Europe. If he’s good, he should be given a chance. “It’s not like he’s got a speaker and is blasting noise,” one supporter wrote.
“Is it illegal to sing or play music in public places without bothering anyone or causing any disturbance or trouble? Why don’t you react exactly like this when hate speeches are given in public places? (sic)” another person inquired.
While some were supportive, others pointed out that he might be impeding normal traffic flow. “It has a proper place. Nobody has the right to sit anywhere and blast their music, whether others like it or not,” one user argued.
What the musician was caught doing in the video is known as busking, a popular practise in European countries. Artists register themselves and play in designated areas.
