Immigration is a key component of the solution, according to the IRCC statement, which was quoted by Xinhua news agency. “As the government concentrates on addressing the acute labour market shortages we are facing today and building a strong economy into the future, one thing remains certain: immigration is a key part of the solution,” the news agency said.
IRCC handled around 5.2 million applications for citizenship, temporary residency, and permanent residence in 2022.
The statement claims that this is a twofold increase from the applications that were handled in 2021.
Currently, the majority of Canada’s labour force growth is being driven by immigration.
Approximately 75% of the population expansion in Canada was due to immigration, primarily in the economic sector.
Immigrants will make up to to 30% of Canada’s population by 2036 compared to only 20.7% in 2011.
The highest percentage among the G7 countries, approximately one in four of those tallied in the census of 2021 were or had been landed immigrants or permanent residents in Canada.
