The Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways informed the media that once finished, drivers would be able to travel between the two cities in 2.15 hours after undertaking an airborne assessment of the Bengaluru-Chennai highway that is currently under construction in Hoskote. Vehicles may travel on the highway at a speed of 120 kmph. After doing the airborne inspection, the minister’s helicopter landed on the helipad that had been constructed on the motorway that was still under construction.
“At the moment, it takes around 5 hours to go from Bengaluru to Chennai. The total journey time will be 2.15 hours after the highway opens. While there are two locations that are separated by 300 km, the new road project will cut that distance in half, to 262 km. The NHAI wants to be finished by March 2024. The projected Bengaluru ring road will be connected to the motorway. The project would cost $17,000 crore in total, the minister stated. Out of the overall length, 71 km are in Karnataka while the remaining kilometres are in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
The minister also stated that building plans for the full 231 kilometre span have already been given a contract. The minister stated, “NHAI is awaiting forest approval to begin building activities in the remaining stretch.
The highway, according to the minister, would assist cut logistic costs from 16% to 6%, which will support the local businesses, merchants, and industries.
