Hisar: On Sunday’s second day of the sixth Elite Men’s National Boxing Championships, Mohammad Hussamuddin, Gaurav Solanki, and Biswamitra Chongtham all won convincingly.
Hussamuddin (57 kg), a two-time CWG bronze medalist, was competing for Services Sports Control Board (SSCB) against Bulen Buragohain of Assam. The SSCB fighter maintained control throughout the contest and displayed both his offensive skill and quick footwork to earn a 5-0 victory by unanimous decision.
On Tuesday, the 2022 Asian bronze medalist will compete against Mizoram’s Lallawmawma. The winner of the 60 kg weight class at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, Solanki of Haryana, against Himachal Pradesh’s Navraj Chauhan.
After the fight was reviewed, Solanki displayed incredible tenacity and vigour to overcome his opponent 5-2 in a hard-fought match. On Tuesday, he will face Madhya Pradesh’s Harendra Singh in the round of 16. Biswamitra (51 kg), a colleague of Hussamuddin’s from the SSCB, also put up an amazing offensive performance against N Madhaba of Orissa.
The referee halted the fight (RSC) in the first round as a result of his superior technical abilities, which enabled him to dominate the fight from the outset and defeat his opponent. Biswamitra will square off against Andhra Pradesh’s Prabhudas Yadla. during his Tuesday matchup in the pre-quarterfinals.
Varinder Singh (60 kg), a representative of the Railway Sports Control Board (RSCB), who won the bronze medal at the 2021 Asian Championships, defeated Chandigarh’s Rahul. After registering a convincing 5-0 victory, Varinder will face SSCB’s Ibrahim Mohmmed in the round of 16 fight on Tuesday.
After the referee stopped the match (RSC) in round 1, another RSCB fighter, Ankit Narwal (63.5kg), also pushed his way to an excellent victory over Arun Kumar of Pondicherry.
The winner of Tuesday’s pre-quarterfinal match between Karan BK of Karnataka and Ratandeep Sharma of Uttar Pradesh will compete against the Asian Youth Championships silver medalist.
Assam’s Shiva Thapa, a record six-time Asian medalist, will launch his campaign on Monday from He starts his career against Delhi’s Jaswinder Singh in the round of 16.
The championships include 386 fighters in total over 13 distinct weight divisions.
