Former MLC and famous BJP trade union leader PV Chalapathi Rao was given a state funeral, and YS Jagan Mohan Reddy expressed his condolences.
Amaravati: Former MLC and well-known BJP trade union leader PV Chalapathi Rao passed away on Monday and was given a state burial before being cremated. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy expressed his condolences.
Due to poor health, Chalapati Rao, 87, died away on Sunday afternoon. His wife, son PVN Madhav, a BJP MLC from north Andhra, and two daughters are his only surviving family members.
He organised a campaign in 1969 for the development of the Polavaram Project on the Godavari river after participating actively in the 1967–1968 agitation for the establishment of the Visakha Steel Plant.
He was twice elected as an MLC representing the graduate district in the northern Circer districts, in 1974 and 1980. From 1980 to 1986, he served as the first head of the BJP’s Andhra Pradesh branch.
The BJP leader’s death was also mourned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who said that he will be remembered for his exceptional service and fervour for his country.
