The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in Nellore has stepped up its investigation into the theft of documents from the city's IV Additional Judicial First Class Magistrate Court that were related to a case involving Agriculture Minister Kakani Govardhan Reddy. The complainant in the case, prominent TDP politician Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy, was interviewed by CBI agents while they were in Nellore. A few more people's comments about this case will probably be recorded by the CBI. Speaking to the media on Friday, Somireddy said that CBI agents Nirmala Devi and Ananthakrishnan interrogated him for more than 1.5 hours and instructed him to file a formal complaint the next week. He hoped that the offenders would receive the worst sentence possible for stealing evidence from the Delhi Uphaar tragedy. "Kakani had fabricated documents to show that I had accumulated significant wealth by tarnishing the reputation of my family. In the Nellore court complex, which consists of 17 courts, there are more than 15,000 case files. The evidence that was presented to the court in relation to them disappeared, according to Somireddy. You might remember that Kakani claimed Somireddy had accumulated a sizable fortune through unethical means. In December 2017, he released a few papers in an effort to substantiate the claim. In response to the accusation, Somireddy filed a police report alleging that the papers made public by Kakani were fake. A chargesheet was also submitted in response to his allegation. On April 14, 2022, not long after Kakani was sworn in as a minister, the evidence that was provided to the court in the case was stolen. The thieves took a bag that included papers, stamps, and technological equipment. The Nellore police opened an investigation when the court employees submitted a complaint. The AP High Court ordered the CBI to look into the theft case in November 2022.
