He also claimed that the Sino-Indian border conflict is linked to a weak economy, a befuddled nation with no vision, hatred, and anger, and the Chinese occupying Indian territory.
New Delhi : India – Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said on Monday that China is threatening to change India’s borders in the same way that Russia is doing with Ukraine.
He also claimed that the Sino-Indian border conflict is linked to a weak economy, a befuddled nation with no vision, hatred, and anger, and the Chinese occupying Indian territory.
“Essentially, what the Russians have done in Ukraine is that they have said we do not want Ukraine to have a strong relationship with the west and they have basically told the Ukrainians that if you will have a strong relationship with the west, we will alter your geography.
“That is exactly the same principle that can be applied to India. What the Chinese are saying to us is that we will change your geography if we continue on our current path. “We will enter Ladakh, we will enter Arunachal (Pradesh), and what I see is them laying the groundwork for that type of approach,” Gandhi said in an interview with film actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan.
The video of the Congress leader’s conversation with Haasan has been uploaded to YouTube.
Gandhi stated that security in the twenty-first century has become a holistic concept that requires a global perspective, adding, “I think our government has completely miscalculated it.” He also stated that the definition of conflict has shifted, as previously, one fought on the border, whereas now, one must fight everywhere.
So the single most important thing in the twenty-first century is that the country has internal cohesion, noted the Congress leader, adding that there should be harmony in the country, people should not fight with each other, there should be peace, and the country should have a vision.
“The point is not going to war, the point is going to a position where you cannot be attacked. And there is a link between a failing economy, a befuddled nation devoid of vision, hatred, and anger, and the Chinese occupying our territory.
“Because they are aware that we are addressing internal issues, such as internal confusion and a lack of harmony, they are free to enter and act however they please. This is one end of the problem,” he said, adding that what happened in Ukraine is a huge part of the problem.
“So as an Indian person, I do not want to be somebody who is war mongering, but I would like our country to be aware that there are real problems at the border and those problems are connected to what is going on inside our country. When Indians fight each other, when the economy fails, and there is unemployment, our external adversary can take advantage of the situation,” Gandhi said.
He stated that one of the things that the leaders of various political parties constantly ask the government is to talk about it, if not to the media, then to the opposition, as they are aware of these issues.
“We might be able to assist you, advise you, or bounce ideas off of you. But they simply refuse to listen. “It’s similar to the approach that we understand everything,” he explained.
