The latter’s study, “Adani Group: How The World’s Third Richest Man Is Pulling The Largest Con In Corporate History,” was released.
Hyderabad: On Thursday, the opposition parties in the nation banded together to call for a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) investigation into the accusations made by Heisenberg Research against businessman Gautam Adani and his business.
The latter says that Adani Group engaged in “stock manipulation and accounting fraud scheme over the course of decades” in its article titled “Adani Group: How The World’s Third Richest Man Is Pulling The Largest Con In Corporate History.”
Congress, Trinamool Congress (TMC), Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), and Bharat Rashtra Samithi supported the call for a JPC (BRS).
It’s interesting to note that no JPC has been established since the NDA administration took office in 2014.
A Joint Parliamentary Committee is what?
A JPC is established to look into any instances of financial irregularities in government operations or to assess a specific Bill that has been brought before the Parliament.
Only when a motion is approved by both houses and carried by one of them can it be set up. The composition of the committee is chosen by the Parliament, and its size is flexible. The Rajya Sabha has half as many members as the Lok Sabha, nevertheless.
A JPC gathers information from all relevant parties, including those who are interested and connected to the case, either orally or in writing, and then provides a report. Unless it is in the public interest to make the report public, the report is kept secret. It is dissolved when the report is delivered to the Parliament.
Previous JPC Committees
The Lok Sabha website states that six JPCs have already been established.
They were established to look into issues like the Bofors Contract, the Allocation and Pricing of Telecom Licenses and Spectrum, Pesticide Residues in and Safety Standards for Soft Drinks, Fruit Juice, and Other Beverages, Stock Market Scam and Matters Relating Thereto, and a Joint Committee to Examine the Constitutional and Legal Position Relating to Office of Profit.
A similar JPC investigation of the Rafale contract and its ties to businessman Anil Ambani was asked a few years ago. However, the Supreme Court denied pleas calling for investigations.
