IndiGo’s first domestic flight touched down at the newly opened Manohar International Airport in Mopa, Goa.
Goa’s Mopa airport, which Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated in December last year, has begun domestic flight operations today. The airport, named ‘Manohar International Airport’ in honour of Late Manohar Parrikar, former Defence Minister and four-time Goa Chief Minister, is located in North Goa. An IndiGo Airlines flight from Hyderabad was the first to land at North Goa’s newly opened Manohar International Airport (MIA) on January 5, according to airport officials.
An MIA official said that IndiGo flight 6E 6145 from Hyderabad would arrive at the facility at 9 a.m. on Thursday. He stated that domestic flights would begin on Thursday, with international flights following shortly after. In addition, Akasa Airlines and Vistara are seeking ground personnel for the new airport.
The Mopa International Airport was designed with long-term infrastructure in mind. Among other things, it has a solar power plant, green buildings, LED runway lighting, rainwater collection, and a cutting-edge sewage treatment system with recycling capabilities.
It has best-in-class technology such as StabilRoad, Robomatic Hollow precast walls, and 3-D Monolithic Precast buildings, as well as 5G-capable IT infrastructure. The airport has a runway large enough to handle the world’s largest aircraft, 14 parking spaces, a place for aircraft night parking, self-baggage drop facilities, and cutting-edge independent air navigation equipment.
