MUMBAI: After the National Cricket Academy deemed star bowler Jasprit Bumrah fit for the home series beginning January 10, he was added to India’s ODI team on Tuesday for the three games against Sri Lanka.
Due to a back ailment, Bumrah last competed for India in September. He also missed the T20 World Cup in Australia.
The bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been included to India’s ODI team for the forthcoming Mastercard 3-match ODI series against Sri Lanka by the All-India Senior Selection Committee.
The National Cricket Academy has deemed the bowler fit after he underwent rehabilitation (NCA). He will soon be a member of the Team India ODI team, according to a statement from the BCCI.
On January 10, Guwahati will host the first ODI, and Kolkata will host the second.
Bumrah is unlikely to play in the shortest format until the ICC tournament at home in October or November since 50-over cricket is the main emphasis during an ODI World Cup year.
The NCA will closely monitor not just other “targeted” India players for the ODI World Cup but also his IPL workload.
Bumrah, one of the finest in the field, is essential to India’s hopes at the major competition as they attempt to win the prized trophy at home for the second time since 2011.
The 29-year-old, who made his India debut in 2016, has played for his nation in 30 Tests, 72 ODIs, and 60 T20Is.
The first One-Day International will take place in Guwahati on January 10 and the second in Kolkata on January 12 third on January 15 in Trivandrum.
Bumrah creates considerable pace with a short-run up, which experts, including the great Michael Holding, believe makes him prone to injury.
When I last met Bumrah in England, I brought up to him my concern about how long that body would hold up with that short run and the amount of work required of his bowling because it is a human body. Holding had said that it wasn’t a machine in 2020.
The revised India team for the ODI series against Sri Lanka includes: Rohit Sharma (captain), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (wicketkeeper), Ishan Kishan (wicketkeeper), Hardik Pandya (vice-captain), Washington Sundar, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel.
