According to a bilateral agreement signed on Monday in Jeddah, a total of 1,75,025 Indian Haj pilgrims will be able to perform Haj this year. Deputy Minister of Haj and Umrah in Saudi Arabia
The agreement was signed at the offices of Dr Adelfattah bin Suleiam Mash and Indian Consul General Md Shahid Alam in Jeddah.
The Indian Haj quota has been set at 1,75,025 for the year 2023, according to a tweet from the Indian Consulate on Monday. The highest quota for India was in 2019, when 1.4 lakh were allocated; the following year, in 2020, the number was 1.25 lakh, but due to the Covid-1o pandemic, Haj was cancelled that year.
In the year 2022, the figure was 79,237. The highest quota during the Congress-led UPA rule was 1,26,018 in 2010.
