For any emergencies along the 158-kilometer stretch, dial the toll-free number 14449 for immediate assistance.
On the winding 158 km stretch of the Outer Ring Road in Hyderabad, a car tyre blows out or the vehicle runs out of fuel (ORR). The vehicle malfunctions, refuses to move, and must be towed to the nearest garage. I came across an accident on this access controlled motorway and would like to request immediate assistance.
For any emergencies on the ORR, dial the toll-free number 14449 for immediate assistance.
This five-digit toll-free number is a one-stop shop for reporting any type of distress or emergency on the ORR. When an alert is received, officials from the Hyderabad Growth Corridor Limited (HGCL), a division of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA), will rush to provide the necessary assistance.
In the event of an accident, health or medical situation, a network of 16 trauma care centres along the ORR will dispatch well-equipped ambulances. A fleet of Advanced Life Support (ALS) ambulances, which are fully equipped to provide first aid and preliminary assistance, treat the person in distress on the spot before transporting them to trauma care. This service is provided free of charge by trauma care centres and Advanced Life Support (ALS) ambulances.
Other emergency assistance, such as vehicle towing, is, however, chargeable, according to an HMDA official. When an alert for assistance is received, teams stationed at the Highway Traffic Management System (HTMS) control centre assist and guide ORR users. These teams also virtually monitor the ORR and coordinate with police, patrol teams, and trauma care centre personnel.
Currently, the HGCL, through HTMS, is making every effort to provide safe and efficient traffic management around-the-clock via CCTV cameras, SOS boxes, and variable message sign boards, in addition to extending emergency services.
Another option for ORR users seeking assistance in an emergency is the geo-tagged SOS box located every km on either side of the stretch.
“The individual should contact our staff via 14449 or SOS boxes. The previous toll-free numbers for emergency services, 1066 (Kokapet to Ghatkesar) and 105910 (Taramatipet to Nanakramguda), have been discontinued, according to an HMDA official.
