Hyderabad: Despite only being accessible on a small number of phones and in a few locations, city residents are excited about the arrival of 5G services. Netizens, however, are not letting the euphoria die down, as several of them recorded speeds of 300–600 MBPS, even though the coverage is predicted to increase over the coming weeks.
On October 6, the city saw the introduction of the 5G cellular network technology standard. As Wi-Fi networks use broadband technology, this technique is only applicable to mobile networks.
There is a significant difference in internet speed between 4G and 5G, according to Srinivas Reddy, who has tried 5G service, and consumers are unlikely to continue with 4G for very long.
According to a spokesman for the telecom firm Airtel, the 5G service said it is being implemented gradually and that by the end of the year, the entire city should be covered.
Only Xiaomi, Redmi, and Oppo smartphones now support Airtel 5G services, although other smartphone makers like Apple have promised to provide upgrades shortly, allowing consumers to access 5G.
The majority of the city’s strategic districts will be covered when 5G services are introduced by telco Jio, according to a company spokesman, and coverage will progressively extend to the entire city.
It should be noted that Jio has conducted 5G testing in the past, with speeds of over 800 MBPS recorded nationwide and 1 GBPS recorded in Delhi. In contrast, the quickest 200 MBPS is the 4G speed.
The ability to instal more demanding programmes, particularly games, on their phones, according to internet users. Additionally, they have started posting the 5G network’s speed test results on Twitter.
In other cases, internet users reported that 5G was unavailable even though their phones met the requirements and that the connection was substantially slower than usual.
