In Kerala, a woman is said to have died after eating biryani. According to police, Anju Sreeparvathy of Perumbala, near here, consumed Kuzhimanthi on December 31 after purchasing it online from a restaurant called Romansia in Kasaragod, and has been undergoing treatment since then.
A 20-year-old woman died on Saturday from suspected food poisoning after consuming Kuzhimanthi, a biryani dish from a local hotel.
According to police, Anju Sreeparvathy of Perumbala, near here, consumed Kuzhimanthi on December 31 after purchasing it online from a restaurant called Romansia in Kasaragod, and has been undergoing treatment since then.
“A case was opened after her parents filed a complaint. “The girl died early Saturday morning,” police said, adding that further action will be taken based on the results of the post-mortem examination.
The girl was being treated at a private hospital before being transferred to another hospital in Mangaluru, Karnataka, where she died.
Meanwhile, the state’s Health Minister, Veena George, has ordered an investigation into the incident.
“The Food Safety Commissioner has been directed to file a report regarding the incident. The DMO is also investigating the incident and the girl’s treatment,” George told reporters in Pathanamthitta.
She stated that the licences of the hotels accused of food poisoning would be revoked in accordance with the Food Safety and Standards Act (FSSA).
Earlier this week, a nurse at Kottayam Medical College allegedly died after consuming food from a Kozhikode eatery.
