The first test match, which got off Thursday in Nagpur, saw the wicketkeeper batsman make his international debut against Australia.
Kona Srikar Bharat made his test cricket debut on Thursday, and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy congratulated him.

After making his debut, the chief minister shared a photo of Bharat hugging his mother.
N. Chandrababu Naidu, a former chief minister, too wished Bharat luck on his debut. Happy to read that today’s first cricket test against Australia will be Kona Bharat’s test debut. I hope for the best for him and am eager to watch him uphold the honor of our nation, added Naidu.
Ishan Kishan was passed over for the first test of the four-match Border Gavaskar series in favor of Bharat, a Visakhapatnam native. Cheteshwar Pujara, a veteran batsman for India, presented the 29-year-old with a test cap at the team’s pre-toss meeting at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur.
When Bharat stumped Marnus Labuschagne off to Jadeja on his debut, India made a significant breakthrough and the batsman appeared content to lead the visitors despite losing early wickets.
