The District Rural Development Agency has agreed to grant SHG members solar power producing units.

Karimnagar: The District Rural Development Agency has agreed to provide members of SHGs solar power production units in order to lessen the financial burden of electricity bills on the district’s female SHG members. The Sthree Nidhi Credit Cooperative Federation would approve the solar panels on a subsidized basis.

The DRDA has begun teaching SHG members on the advantages of solar electricity after setting a goal to sanction 500 solar units this fiscal year. 50 women have volunteered to start solar units so far. In the beginning, each mandal will have 30 units, according to authorities.

Additionally, plans were being formed with assistance from the TS Renewable Energy Development Corporation to simultaneously establish units in rural and urban regions (TSREDCO).

The government is endorsing solar power units with alluring incentives in an effort to get consumers to choose green energy sources rather than conventional power.

As part of it, solar installations are also being made in government buildings and educational institutions. The DRDA launched a program to grant solar units to SHG members as part of this, and created two schemes for 2kv and 3kv power generating units. The 2kv and 3kv units would generate 8 and 12 units of electricity each day, respectively.

A 2kv solar unit costs Rs. 1,42,200; the government will provide Rs. 39,200 in subsidies, and Sthree Nidhi will approve a Rs. 1 lakh loan. The customer’s first contribution would be Rs. 3,000, and the loan would be repaid in monthly payments of Rs. 2,243.

A 3kv solar unit costs Rs. 1,92,360; Sthree Nidhi will loan Rs. 1,25,00 and the government would subsidize it with Rs. 57,360. Customers who must deposit Rs. 10,000 to the program can pay off the debt by making monthly payments of Rs. 2,803.

To set up the solar units, a reinforced cement concrete structure about 160–200 square feet is needed. In addition to reducing their energy costs, users may feed the system with extra energy.

According to V Paramachary, district manager for TSREDCO, meetings with district collectors and DRDA representatives were held in the districts of Jagtial and Sircilla to discuss the program.

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has adopted the program, he said, adding that there is a chance to receive a 35 to 40% subsidy if applications are presented by the end of this fiscal year since the Center intends to adjust the rates. He stated that authorized suppliers will install the solar panels and provide panel maintenance for up to five years.
