The administration of Osmania University is considering installing motion sensors around the women’s hostel to detect movement.
Osmania University is planning to use advanced technologies to ensure the safety and security of female students living in campus hostels.
As a result, the university administration is considering installing motion sensors around the women’s hostel that detect any movement and sound an alarm in the event of any human intrusion into the hostel.
To begin, the varsity plans to instal such motion detection sensors as well as alarms in the Centenary Girls’ Hostel, which is located in the campus’s interior. They are also likely to implement similar safety measures in the Women’s Hostel near Adikmet Road.
According to a senior official, if there is repeated movement or if someone attempts to climb the compound wall, alarms will sound in the hostel’s security room and the Command Control Centre. The sensors that would be installed would cover a large area.
“The university, which is according top priority to safety and security of its students, particularly women staying in the campus hostels, is planning to instal motion sensors which raise alarm in the case of any human intrusion in the hostels. “A company has offered to extend the services,” said the senior official.
In 2019, an unidentified individual entered the women’s hostel on campus at night by scaling the back compound wall and entering the bathroom by removing the glass panes. He allegedly held a student at knifepoint and stole her phone. The intruder fled into the darkness as the student screamed for help.
Currently, the university administration has hired retired military personnel to provide security in the hostels, campus colleges, and administrative building.
