The management of Osmania University is considering placing sensors that can detect movement all over the women’s dormitories.
Hyderabad: Osmania University is planning to use cutting-edge technology to enhance the safety and security of female students living in campus residence halls.
As a result, the university administration is considering installing motion sensors around the women’s hostel that not only detect any movement but also sound an alert in the event of a human incursion.
The Centenary Girls’ Hostel, which is situated inside the campus, will be the first place where the varsity instals such motion detection sensors and alarms. The Women’s Hostel, which is close to Adikmet Road, is also expected to develop a similar safety feature.
A senior official said that if there is repetitive movement or if someone tries to scale the complex wall, the alarms in the hostel’s security room and in the Command Control Center will sound. The implanted sensors would provide extensive coverage.
“The university plans to instal motion sensors that sound an alert in the event of any human incursion in the dormitories, giving top emphasis to the safety and security of its students, particularly ladies living on campus. A business has offered to continue providing the services, the senior official added.
In 2019, an unnamed individual scaled the back compound wall of the women’s dormitory on campus during the night and then accessed the restroom by breaking the glass panes. In addition to reportedly snatching a student’s cell phone, he also held her at knifepoint. The assailant fled into the shadows as the student screamed for rescue.
The security at the dorms, campus colleges, and administrative building is now provided by former military soldiers employed by the university administration.
