The fashion designer unveiled a collection with DIY accents for people of all ages and genders.
The pre-fall 2023 collection by Eudon Choi was heavily influenced by a contemplation on ageing.
The London-based designer wanted to embrace the beauty of developing a few wrinkles on the face after seeing his friends in South Korea, where getting plastic surgery is practically as normal as getting a spa treatment, struggle with age fears.
He incorporated the bright and carefree outlook on life of “strong female leaders” like Diana Vreeland and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis into his urban and practical DIY approach to wardrobe creation.
Additionally, the line was gender neutral. After using a few male models on the runway in September, Choi recruited a male model for the first time to show off some of the looks in the look book.
The end result was a classy collection of outerwear, knitwear, dresses, and tailoring with thoughtful details that give the wearer the option to play around for different social occasions. For example, a trench can be transformed into a gilet by unbuttoning it from the inside, a shirt can have an additional detachable collar, and a knit top can be worn both front and back.
When the pieces are supposed to “be retained in the watch for a long time,” a concept that the TikTok generation is quickly latching on to as the recession strikes, Choi considers the collection an anti-Y2K message.
