Rallies and public gatherings are not permitted to be held on roads and highways, according to the Andhra Pradesh government.
Amaravati: The Andhra Pradesh government has outlawed holding public gatherings and demonstrations on streets, highways, road margins, and street corners.
According to the directives published by the Home department late Monday, district superintendents of police or police commissioners might, in exceptional circumstances, provide conditional approval.
The choice was made in response to two Telugu Desam Party-related incidents that happened lately and resulted in up to 11 fatalities in a span of three days.
Government adviser Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy indicated that the restrictions will apply to all political parties, including the dominant YSR Congress Party, to the media on Tuesday.
“All roadside gatherings and protests are forbidden. We advise selecting alternate locations. They can hold gatherings in public areas rather than on streets. A lot of people are dying during Chandrababu gatherings. We have witnessed what transpired in Guntur and Kandukuru. Chandrababu killed innocent people, he said.
The restriction comes as a shock to the opposition TDP and Jana Sena Party, who are preparing for the 2019 elections by organising padayatras and road shows across the state.
Political commentators believe it is quite possible that the so-called conditional authorization would be given for gatherings of the ruling party, clearly disadvantageous the opposition.
