In NEW DELHI: The ODI World Cup, which will be contested in the nation later this year, will be heavily influenced by seniors like skipper Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, both of whom are excellent spinners, according to former India opener Gautam Gambhir.
India, according to Gambhir, must find courageous cricketers and have a variety of players for the 50-over format.
“In a format like 50 overs, you definitely need to have a blend of every sort of player. First, you need to find the individuals that have that fearless mentality. Some players are capable of supporting their innings. Change in duty has also significantly improved things, Gambhir noted on the Star Sports programme “Road to World Cup Glory.”
“I think individuals like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli And the next World Cup will include a significant part for all those players who can anchor their innings and likely play spin exceptionally effectively.”
The politician who was once a cricketer claimed that the inclusion of two balls from two ends had altered the ODI format.
“The number of new balls has increased from one at the time to two, each with five fielders inside. Therefore, the concept of a part-time employee is no longer relevant. Reverse swings are less frequently performed these days, and the finger spinners’ chase is also less frequent “explained Gambhir.
“But I believe that when we discuss this new strategy, which India always discusses, the template and other things, you have to identify athletes that are really adept at adapting to those positions or that pattern.”
To win the ODI World Cup at home, according to Gambhir, India must remain with a group of players and give them a chance in games.
“People who play more than three forms of cricket may undoubtedly take a sabbatical from T20 cricket, but not from the ODI format, if they so choose. They enjoyed playing together.
“The fact that these players haven’t played enough cricket together has been the biggest error Indian cricket has made during the previous two World Cups, in my opinion. Tell me how many times the top 11 players have been on the field.
“We haven’t; instead, we simply agreed to have during the World Cup the finest playing 11, but regrettably, it was never so,” he remarked.
Gambhir advised Indian cricketers to prioritise 50-over cricket with the World Cup in mind and, if necessary, refrain from participating in the IPL.
Therefore, regardless of whether they want to take a vacation from the T20 or the IPL, these men must play enough white-ball cricket to prepare for the 50 over World Cup together. However, the T20 format must be used for the break rather than the 50-over format.
“If the franchisee must suffer, then so must they. Not the IPL, although Indian cricket is the primary stakeholder. Just a by-product, IPL. Therefore, if India competes and prevails at the World Cup,The larger standing ovation equals a larger ring, he noted.
“…if a key player is forced to miss an IPL game, so be it; the IPL takes place every year but the World Cup only occurs every four years. Therefore, I consider the World Cup to be far more significant than the IPL.
