Hyderabad: To increase the pass rate of SSC pupils, the school education department has created a 40-day subject-specific calendar of special courses, 12 days of weekend testing, and pre-final examinations from February 22 to March 4. The timetable will begin on January 3. Two pre-final examinations are being offered for the first time this semester.
Students will take the test during the first session of the pre-finals and attend class during the second. There is time for questions, discussion of the papers, and comments.
Before and after school revision sessions for Class 10 had begun two months prior. A instructor, however, said that some parents were not committed to the revision lessons. Whenever a student misses a class, teachers phone the parents every other day the revision classes. While a few just yes, others do not even bother answering the phone,” said Manjula Reddy, government school teacher.
Afreen Fatima, a teacher at a government school, claimed that it was unclear how much of the curriculum will be covered by the pre-finals. “The curriculum was supposed to be completed by December 31 but it hasn’t been. During the review courses, we give extra attention to the weaker pupils. Questions that pupils may easily get points on are given more weight, she added.
Fatima complained that teachers weren’t assigning pupils writing projects, forcing them to engage in physical exercise, or offering them refreshments to keep them energised.
