This year, nearly 5 lakh more passengers chose to travel in RTC buses than last year, according to TSRTC Managing Director VC Sajjanar on Monday.

Hyderabad: The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) has set a new record by safely transporting 1.21 million passengers to their destinations and celebrating the Sankranti festival between January 11 and 14. The RTC buses travelled approximately 1.57 million kilometres in four days while transporting 1.21 million passengers to their destinations.

This year, nearly 5 lakh more passengers chose to travel in RTC buses than last year, according to TSRTC Managing Director VC Sajjanar on Monday. The top RTC official congratulated the staff on ensuring the safety of passengers and urged them to be vigilant as people return to Hyderabad in the coming days.

TSRTC operated 3,203 special buses between January 11 and 14 to meet the increased demand during Sankranti. Originally, the RTC planned to run 2,384 buses, but due to increased demand and congestion, an additional 819 buses were added later. “This time, instead of waiting for hours at toll plazas, special lanes were set up, allowing passengers to get to their destinations faster,” Sajjanar explained.

Senior RTC officials who are familiar with the Sankranti travel arrangements anticipate that citizens who travelled to their homes for Sankranti will begin returning to Hyderabad on Tuesday. Around 3,000 special buses have been arranged to meet this demand, they added.

Between Tuesday and Wednesday, approximately 212 special buses will operate from various cities in Andhra Pradesh, including Vijayawada (54), Visakhapatnam (19), Amalapuram (23), Srikakulam (9), Eluru (11), Rajahmundry (12), Guntur (29), Bapatla (5), Cheerala (7), Machilipatnam (5), Gudivada (6), Tenali (4), Razole (9).
“The next two to three months are critical for TSRTC,” senior officials said.

The meeting was attended by TSRTC Chief Operating Officer V. Ravinder, Regional Managers, Deputy Regional Managers, Depot Managers, and others.
