Hyderabad: The allocation in the budget, which was Rs 9,243.09 crore, has been reduced to a meagre Rs 1 lakh, which would come as a shock to cotton growers all over the nation as well as to the Cotton Corporation of India.
This allotment, which was intended to be used by the Cotton Corporation to purchase cotton under the Price Support Scheme, was only given Rs 1 lakh in 2021–2022 and Rs 8,331.96 crore in 2022–2023.
T Harish Rao, the finance minister, reacted angrily to the cut, saying that it could undoubtedly result in “serious devastation” for cotton growers. Telangana, which leads the nation in the production of high-quality cotton but ranks only second in terms of the total area under which cotton was grown, would be particularly affected.
“This is an illusionary budget. a budget against poverty. “A budget that offers Telangana an empty hand,” Harish Rao stated.
