The health government had prohibited relocating lady patients at night unless there was an emergency and required that a health worker will accompany the patient after an ambulance driver sexually assaulted a patient in Kerala in 2020.
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A hospital employee who was escorting a young lady who was being moved from one hospital to another in Kerala’s Thrissur district on Sunday sexually abused her, according to police.
As making an attempt at suicide, the woman was taken to the Kodungallur Taluk Hospital and then, after her health worsened, was sent 50 kilometers away to the Government Medical College in Thrissur.
K Dayalal, a contract worker in the taluk hospital’s electrical division, was tasked with going to the medical college with the woman.
According to the police, Dayalal abused the woman in the ambulance sexually. She was receiving treatment for poisoning.
During her treatment at the medical college, the lady disclosed the alleged assault to the on-call nurse. The police were notified by the hospital, and the culprit was detained before he could escape.
The hospital superintendent was asked for a report by Kerala’s health minister Veena George, and Dayalal’s employment with the facility was terminated.
Undoubtedly, when an ambulance driver sexually assaulted a Covid-19 woman in Kottayam in 2020, the government instructed hospitals that women patients may not be transferred alone in an ambulance unless accompanied by health staff.
